Writing

For essays, short stories, poetry, and whatever other forms of fiction you creative folks want to throw our way please follow these guidelines before submitting:

• The subject line should list the category of the piece (i.e Submission Poetry, Submission Essay)

• All text submissions should be sent in a .docx format using Microsoft Word or any similar text processor. We will not accept work in the body of the email, in Apple Pages, or in PDF format

• In one submission we will accept up to four poems, one story/essay over 2000 words, and two stories/essays under 2000 words

• ​Please include a title of the work(s) submitted, the name you would like published with the work, and a short third person bio (50-100 words, but we are flexible)

• Do not send us work that is not your own. Seriously dude.

Images + Media

For art, photography, visual text, gifs, video, or other eye stimulating creations please follow these guidelines before submitting:

• The subject line should list the category of the piece (i.e Submission Photography, Submission Video)

• All image submissions should be sent in a .jpeg, .png, or .pdf file, video submissions can be hosted on other websites or sent in as .mp4 files, .gifs are... well in .gif files

• Videos if hosted can be whatever length, if .mp4 they can be up to 10 mins exactly ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ sorry we don't make the rules!

• In one submission we will accept up to five images, and one video 

• Please include a title of the work(s) submitted, the name you would like published with the work, and a short third person bio (50-100 words, but we are flexible)

Alien Pub does not curate one specific style or genre of work. Our editors like a variety of work. Just give us your best work and something you are proud of!

Alien Pub firmly will not accept anything racist, sexist, homophobic, transphobic, anti-semitic, ableist, or discriminatory in any sense. We are an intersectional feminist publication and we are not here to support any language that demonizes, dehumanizes, makes fun of marginalized people. We also will not accept work that perpetuates harmful stereotypes or appropriates the language and culture of another group. Your art should not have to benefit off the subjugation of marginalized people to be good.

We are open to simultaneous submissions

However please let us know right away if your work has been accepted elsewhere.

We are looking for original, previously unpublished works of poetry, fiction, photography, visual art, or essay of any length. Please ensure only to send works of which you are the creator. Alien Pub asks that you let us know if you are seeing other magazines. Well, we just mean it doesn't matter if you are published somewhere later, we'd just like to credit that publication on our website. You are free to republish your piece afterwards, but we ask that you have the publication acknowledge that it was published here first. Also make sure it's ok with other magazines, before you submit any work previously published!

We currently have no way to pay contributors for their work

We are an independent creative project by university students, so Alien Pub is a labour of love. What we can provide is a place to house your work and link to for portfolios and resumes, as well as a place to promote yourself and your other works on the Alien Pub network.

​

We will try to respond to submissions within 1-2 weeks.

While we are still in our early stages, however, this period may be longer and posting of work may be delayed.
